UNC backs ANSAM stir

Ukhrul, June 01 2025: United Naga Council (UNC) has declared its support and solidarity with the All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) as the latter prepare to picket government offices across all Naga-inhabited districts starting June 2, 2025 .

The ANSAM's move aims to register protest against the construction of border fencing and the scrapping of the FMR along the Indo-Myanmar border.

"The UNC will stand in solidarity with ANSAM's decision to take up office picketing in all the Naga Hill Districts for 48 hours with effect from 2nd of June 2025 to register our stiff opposition against construction of fencing along the imaginary Indo-Myanmar border and scrapping of FMR to further alienate the Nagas," said the Council in a statement issued by its Information and Publicity Cell on Sunday.

During the Presidential Council Meeting held on March 26, 2025, the UNC endorsed this decision, Which was subsequently reaffirmed in the Council Assembly via Resolution No 2 on May 30, 2025, it said.

The Council then urged all district apex bodies and Tribe Hoho presidents to cooperate without fear or favour, seeking their active participation in the planned protests.
