BJP discusses proposal for popular govt formation

Informing that the state BJP unit had discussed sending a proposal to the central leaders for forming a popular government following a meeting of party MLAs on Friday night, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi said that BJP and its MLAs have taken on the responsibility of fulfilling the people's demand for a new popular government, adding that efforts would be taken up to form the same as soon as possible.
In a press meet held at BJP Thambal Shanglen on Saturday after the meeting of BJP legislators, Sharda stressed the need for a popular government and stated that it is the responsibility of all MLAs to form the government.
While the former chief minister resigned in the interest of the people in view of the conflict, the MLAs, along with the people and the party, want to form a popular government.
As such, efforts are on to carry out the due process, she added.
Sharda, however, did not respond to queries from media persons on when the proposal would be sent to the central leaders.
Meanwhile, Wangjing Tentha MLA P Brojendro responded to questions from the media stating that there were no differences of opinion during Friday's meeting.
Almost all MLAs attended the meeting, except for a few who are outside the state.
He continued that while it is hard to predict the situation of the seven hill MLAs, the 30 MLAs are still there.
There are no disagreements with NPP and NPF, he said, and expressed hope that the formation of a new government would help in restoring peace in the state.
Regarding questions on who would be the leader of the new government, the MLA stated that the leader would be selected by the central leaders, as is the norm.
There is no crisis on the matter of selecting a leader, he added.
The legislators' meeting was attended by BJP MLAs Yumnam Khemchand, Konthoujam Govindas, Karam Shyam, Dipu Gangmei, Yumnam Radheshyam, P Brojen, Kh Raghumani, Kh Ibomcha, Sapam Kunjakeshore, Tongbram Robindro, S Premchand, Kh Joykisan and U Deben.
