Imphal, May 26 2013: Some parties having their offices in Manipur drew blank in the last Assembly election.

Neither these parties are working for the people and they are as good as dead, asserted MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.

Addressing a one-day political conference organised by Yaiskul BCC at Naharol Sintha Kanglup community hall, Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi today, Gaikhangam stated that political parties which could not sustain a mo-vement of their own are as good as dead.

Whatever opposition parties speak about Congress party is their duty.

They may speak more about Congress party for it would enhance the party's knowledge.

However, if opposition parties are determined to criticise the Government, it would be palatable only when it is constructive and meaningful, Gaikhangam asserted.

Some major opposition parties were taught a befitting lesson by people during the Assembly elections of 2012 .

He further conveyed wish-es albeit sarcastically to the opposition parties so that at least one or two of their can-didate(s) get elected in the next election by god's grace.

Noting that some people, on hearing about the political conferences, have been asking if election is approaching, Gaikhangam clarified that election time is still far off.

He stated that political conferences are being organised to study the existing relationship between the Government and the people.

Claiming that Congress party has the biggest responsibility towards the people, the MPCC president admitted that Congress party cannot survive if there is disconnect between the party and people.

Regarding execution and non-execution of the varied points highlighted in election manifesto, the party's coordination committee has apprised the matter to AICC in writing.

Congress would never sway from its conviction towards people's welfare and integrity, he affirmed.

Maintaining that Congress party is a far-sighted organisation, Gaikhangam claimed that the eastern door (Nongpok Thong) has been opened by way of implementing Vision 2020 and the Look East Policy.

Exhorting youth not to waste time and spirit either by taking drugs or walking on the wrong path, he expressed happiness over many underground cadres returning to the mainstream.

Local MLA E Chand said that he has been working hard to fulfil all the promises he made during the last Assembly election including pro- blem of potable water supply in Yaiskul AC.

He also sought public support to the many welfare and development programmes taken up by the Government.

Many other party leaders also spoke at the conference.
