Status report contradicts reality

Imphal, June 25 2016 : Even though barrack type quarters constructed by Manipur Development Society (MDS) for Wangoo Laipham Primary Health Centre (PHC) has not been completed, status report submitted to the concerned authority by MDS claimed that the construction work has been completed.

The barrack type quarters were constructed by MDS as a deposit work under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

Although major portions of the quarters have been completed, there are still some portions which are yet to be completed.

The misleading report submitted by MDS was detected when Health Minister D Korungthang, Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit, Wabagai AC MLA Fazur Rahim and officials of Health Department inspected Community Health Centres and PHCs located within Sugnu AC today.

D Korungthang stated that he would consult MDS and the concerned contractor regarding the incomplete portion of the quarters.

Even though the status report claimed that the cons- truction work has been fully completed, the final bill has not been released yet.

Meanwhile construction of barrack type quarters for Kakching CHC is currently underway.

Nonetheless, 50 per cent of the estimated cost has been released so far.

If there is any pending liability, the same would be paid without undue delay, Korungthang stated.

The State's health sector has been facing shortage of doctors and staff while 62 doctors have gone to different places to pursue PG courses.

As for the recruitment exams held for appointment of nursing staff, paramedical staff and other staff, the results would be declared within the current month.

The issue about shortage of doctors would be discussed at the Government level, informed the Health Minister.

Although there should be 10 doctors at Kakching CHC, only four doctors are working at the CHC at present.

Nonetheless, Korungthang assured that due procedures would be initiated to increase the number of doctors to at least six.

Even though there is shortage of staff at Serou PHC, Sugnu CHC, Wangoo Laipham PHC and Kakching Khunou PHC, all these health centres are somehow manageable with the existing staff.

There are no partition for male and female patients in the general ward of Wangoo Laipham PHC.

As such, the existing structure would be modified and enlarged.

In the meantime, the barrack type quarters, though incomplete, would be used as male ward temporarily.

Later, MLA K Ranjit conveyed gratitude to the Health Minister and Health Department officials for inspecting health centres located within his home constituency.
