Obscurity clouds HSE '13 results

Imphal, May 23 2013 : Results of the class XII exam conducted by the Council of Higher Se-condary Education Manipur (COHSEM) have confused many people even as some others have started questioning if there were certain lapses or follies in the result.

As per the exam results declared yesterday, 48 students who fulfil due criteria have been selected for different awards.

But COHSEM did not give details of the awards.

It did not specify whether the awards would be given to subject toppers or highest mark scorers in aggregate.

Of the 48 students selected for the awards, 11 are students of Vision Creative School of Science, Thoubal Okram.

Out of the 11 students, nine students namely Khul-lakpam Sushma, Soibam Jo- shila, Angom Tiken Meitei, Athokpam Ajanta, Irom Chi-taranjan, Khangembam Ro- mio, Takhellambam Premku-mar, Thingujam Dingku and Thokchom Vikash all scored 92 marks in MIL (Manipuri).

Ningombam Menaka of Royal Academy, Wangjing is one of the students selected for the awards.

She scored 98 marks in MIL (Manipuri), two more than the marks scored by the nine students of Vision Creative School of Science, Thoubal.

Menaka scored more marks in all other subjects viz; English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics than the students of Vision Creative School of Science.

Given these facts, it is confusing that 11 students of Vision Creative School of Science have been selected for different awards.

Another student selected for the awards is Laiphrakpam Ranjit of Herbert School, Changangei and he scored 96 and 97 marks in MIL (Alternative English) and English respectively.

He is the highest mark scorer in the two subjects.

It is not clear whether he would be given two awards or just one.

The aggregate marks are do not take into account all the four elective subjects.

Marks scored in only three elective subjects are counted for the aggregate.

Some students who failed in one of the four elective subjects are also included among the group selected for awards.

Again, it is not clear whether students who failed in one of the elective subjects are eligible for awards or not.

Even as this reporter tried to contact COHSEM Chairman on these obscurities, the Chairman could not be reached.
