Guardian's body join outcry

Imphal, January 14, 2011: The Government should take the brutal murder of the BSEM Chairman inside his office chamber with all seriousness and utilise all its resources to book and punish the killers, demanded the All Manipur Student Guardians' Organisation Manipur.

Speaking to media persons at their Palace Compound office today, advisor of the organisation N Tomba said that the murder of 64 year old BSEM Chairman Kunjabihari was the most gruesome and inhuman crime.

The State should take the issue very seriously and do what is demanded of being an elected Government.

Stating that Board of Secondary Education, Manipur is a very important institution for students, N Tomba remarked that the brutal killing of the board's Chairman has seriously jeopardised academic atmosphere in the State.

Demanding that the killers of Kunjabihari should explain their act, the advisor observed that failure to come up with any explanation has baffled the people all the more.

Acting indifference to such ghastly murder on the part of the Government would be only inviting massive and intense people's movement, he cautioned.

Joining the press meet, president of the organisation Rehang Chothe strongly condemned the brutal murder of BSEM Chairman N Kunjabihari when people have been raising a strong voice to make all education related institutions free zones so that children of both the hills and valley can enjoy the Right to Education.

The incident was also a stark reminder that police have failed miserably in their duty of maintaining law and order.

Working president of the organisation N Chaoba observed that many educationists and officers have been killed most brutally in both the hills and valley too often.

Asking all concerned to give all accused a second chance before eliminating them, N Tomba cautioned that such summary killing would reduce the Meitei to the status of a minority.

Another advisor to the organisation RK Nakunsana remarked that the murder of the BSEM Chairman inside his office chamber has exposed the abject failure of Home Department.

He asserted that the Governor ought to submit a report to the Government of India in connection with the murder of Kunjabihari.

Saying that the Home Department is one department which has failed miserably in discharging its duties, Nakunsana asserted that the Minister in charge of Home department should be replaced.

Members of guardians' organisation who took part in the press meet observed two minutes' silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul of Kunjabihari.

They also conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family.
