Village authority clarifies on OFC arson case

Imphal, January 14, 2011:
The Khullakpa of Charoi-Changotlong Village today made a clarification with regard to the news item "OFC burnt in arson" appeared in Hueiyen Lanpao daily on its Friday (January 14) edition.
The village authority has learnt the incident of damaging of 400 meter length OFC (Optical Fiber Cable) worth around Rs 2 lakh belonging to Vodafone Mobile Phone Servicefor by unknown persons in an act of arson.
It is further reported that the said incident took place on January 8, 2011, around 11.30 pm.
With regard to the names of five accused mention in the report, Hueiyen Lanpao clarified that the names were not directly provided by the Vodafone mobile provider but mention by the complaint while lodging a complaint to the police.
The report was not based on the disclosure made by mobile phone operator but from a source based on the FIR case registered with the police.
Further, the village authority clarified that there is a tower of Airtel Mobile Service which has been already activating for the last five months.
There is no agreement between the Peidai (General Customary Court) and the Airtel Mobile representatives.
The Bharati Infratel Company was represented by four persons, I Brajabihari, head technician, S Hemarjit CI, M Daneshwor, Site ACG and L Henry, Site ACG.
The agreement (MoU) stating that Gaiphuilin Phaomei son of late Chakanpong is the genuine land owner thereby compensation rent andcare taker of the Airtel Tower be paid to him and appointed in his favour.
The agreement was inked in presence of village leaders as witnesses.
The villagers of Chkanlong including, chairman & Secretary of the Peidai Khullakpa, V/A secretary have recognized the existence of Airtel Tower at Tarou Khubut location at Taokonjang Chakanlong and it is operative.
However, the villagers of Chakanlong, Peidai, V/A members do not know that there is Vodafone do not know that there is Vodafone Mobile provider and service within the jurisdiction of the village, the Khullakpa of Charoi-Chagoitlong Village said in the statement.
It added that any company or department who wants to establish/install or construct any tower of mobile etc.
should get prior permission from the Peidai and the Khullakpa before they start any construction or development works.
Any body or company who comes and installs or constructs any project/development work in a clandestine manner will not be entertained and responsible by the villagers.
Therefore, the villagers of Chakanlong have no knowledge of the incident took place on the night of January 8, 2011 in which the OFC of Vodafone was burnt down.
The authority also summon the authorities concerned and Vodafone Mobile Operator Service and all persons involved in accusing five innocent villagers to appear before the Peidai on or before January 20, 2012 and clarify their position in front of the public.
Failing which customary fine of a pig with five fist size has to be imposed against those "culprits/defaulters", the statement informed and warned that defamation sue will be initiated against them for their baseless and false accusation against those innocent villagers also furnishing the image of the village.
