RN Ravi mum on peace talk with NSCN (IM) : MHA collects border report

Imphal, April 06 2015 : A report on effective management of Indo-Myanmar border has been collected by the core group of the Joint Intelligence Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs from the relevant State Government officials.

The core group is headed by chairman RN Ravi, former Special Director of Intelligence Bureau.

Notably, RN Ravi is the Government of India's interlocutor for the ongoing political dialogue with NSCN-IM .

RN Ravi together with MHA North East in-charge Shambhu Singh and Border Management Joint Secretary Hitesh Kumar Makwana arrived here yesterday.

The team headed by RN Ravi held a meeting with top ranking officials of the State Government at the conference hall of Old Secretariat today and discussed about (Indo-Myanmar) border affairs and collected a detailed report.

Additional Chief Secretary O Nabakishore who is currently in charge of the post of Chief Secretary, Additional Secretary Niklesh Jha who is in charge of Home Department, DGP Sahid Ahmed, ADG (L/O), IG (Intelligence) and BSF officers were present at the meeting.

Effectiveness of policing on Indo-Myanmar border was the main agenda of the meeting.

Notably, Manipur shares a 380 Km long international border with Myanmar.

The meeting deliberated on cross border movement of UG cadres as well as smuggling of drugs and arms.

The committee sought names and details of villages located on either side of Indo-Myanmar border.

They also enquired about the communities which are settled along the international border.

On their part, the State Government officials proposed installation of X-ray machines at Khudengthabi for checking goods speedily in place of the present tedious and time-consuming manual system.

Apart from raising the issue of disappearance of border pillars, the State officials proposed installation of CCTV cameras at Moreh Gate No 2 .

The team was scheduled to visit Behiang, Somtal and Kamjong but the plan was aborted due to inclement weather.

Nonetheless, they may visit Jessami tomorrow.

The teach which would also visit Nagaland and Mizoram would file and submit a report to the National Security Council.

The same report may also be forwarded to the Prime Minister's Office.

However, the team led by RN Ravi did not say a word about the ongoing political dialogue between the Government of India and NSCN-IM.
