Imphal, April 06: The four-day long Xth All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) general conference came to an end with a change of guard of the office bearers on Saturday at Nteiramphung in Senapati district.

Attending the cultural program of the conference on Friday as special guest, Manipur Hill Areas Committee (HAC) Chairman Thangminlien Kipgen dwelt at length on the need of unity among the Nagas as well as the tribal people in general.

He stressed on unity as an essential element to collectively make a right decision.

He said unity is indispensable to march forward and it is the vital component for all round development.

Manipur legislative member Morung Makunga, who also attended the function, shared painful memories during his association with ANSAM back in the early eighties while persuading the students and the youth to be sincere and punctual in every endeavors and efforts taken up for the society.

He said that student activists of today may be the leader tomorrow.

As such, he suggetsed that the students must work sincerely for the society.

MLA N Awangbow said that the role of the students and youth are necessary for strengthening and shaping the society.

He maintained if and when the students and youth uphold the responsibilities in the interest of the people, no force can defeat the collective initiative.

Various cultural items were showcased during the day.

Presentation of cultural items from the Anal, Lamkang, Maram, Mao, Poumai, Moyon, Monsang, Maring and Thangal Students' Unions was witnessed.

Speaking during the afternoon program as special guest, Imchatoba Imchen, president of the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) urged the Nagas across 'Nagalim' to determine them steadfastly and sincerely so as to facilitate solutions to the unresolved issues of the Naga people.

The NSF president also released a profile of the Xth general conference of ANSAM during the program.

The function was also attended by representatives from the All Nagaland Colleges Students' Union (ANCSU) and Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU).

The Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) president who also greeted the delegates urged for the strengthening of ties amongst the various tribal communities.

Gracing the valedictory function of the conference, MLA K Raina urged the students to pursue the interest of the people and promote the activities collectively with sincerity.

YP Chillio, president of the Eastern Naga Students' Federation (ENSF) exhorted the gathering to bring together the divided Naga Homeland in one platform.

Chillio said "though imaginary boundaries demarcated by alien forces separates the Nagas, the struggle to unite as one people is dear and hence we must strive for the cherished goal".

Meanwhile, the conference also saw the exit of some leaders of the students' body while welcoming new faces as new office bearers of the students' body for the term 2008-10 .

Adani David Choro has been elected the new president of ANSAM while Raisangpem Shaiza is the new general secretary of the students' body.

The other newly elected officials of the students' body include Ts Molarsing as speaker, Sounii Khapa as vice president, YK Luckson as social and culture secretary, Promise as education and statistics secretary and Th.Robert as games and sports secretary.

The evening program was also another gala time for the delegates and invitees who attended the conference as the stage was filled with various artistes belting out several numbers.

Guest artistes from various students' body including the Anal Lenruwal Tangpi (ALT), Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) Thangal Anleinao Jonlong (TAJ) Poumei Tsudomii Me (PTM), etc enthralled the crowd with a number of songs.

Bands from Light House and Sweet Disorder have also belted out heart rending and soul refreshing numbers and made the delegates to listen to their songs with mouth agape.

Meanwhile, the central organizing committee of the conference and the executive council of the ANSAM conveyed gratitude to all concerned for making the conference a success.

The conference began on April 2 .
