Imphal, August 30 2012:
Reacting to the news report on the death of a Manipuri student in Chandigarh, Manipuri Students' Association, Chandigarh (MSAC) has debunked the murder theory floated as misleading.
In a statement issued by its President Rajkumar Meiraba Singh, the student body said that following the news about the death of Pangambam Ravi, s/o Pangambam Sangai and Pangambam Ongbi Nganthoi of Khurai Kongpal, Ningthou-bung, Imphal East, MSAC contacted Pangambam Ranjan, the brother of the diseased, who has been staying with Ravi for the last two years at House No.262 - A, Khuda Lahora, Chandigarh UT and confirmed that Ravi had been missing since 25 August 2012 .
Accordingly, Ranjan lodged a complaint with the police on 29 August 2012 and he was later informed to identify a decomposed corpse, which was kept in the mortuary of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Engineering and Research, Chandigarh.
After identifying the dead body as that of Ravi, some concerned members of MSAC and Ravi himself tried but could not find any injury mark or whatsoever evidence that could be suspected to be the case of murder.
However, the Chandigarh Police has not confirmed the cause of the death until the receipt of post mortem report, which is expected tomorrow, the statement observed.
Apparently the case has nothing to do with communal intents, as Chandigarh has been comparatively a peaceful city though other parts of the country have been affected by the hate mails, which resulted in mass exodus of the North-Easterners in the past few weeks.
No one has been reported to have left the City Beautiful due to recent tension, and all North-Easterners are quite safe and secure; normal professional and educational activities go on unperturbed.
It is unfortunate that the cause of death of Ravi has been reported misleadingly without proper evidence, the student body lamented and appealed to all not to panic and resort to any irrational decision due to the misleading news report.
Such sensitive issue country should be confirmed and consulted with Manipuri Students' Association Chandigarh (MSAC) and the North-East Forum Chandigarh (NEFC) before it goes public, the statement observed.
