Imphal, August 30, 2012:
Finally police have established that Irungbam Irabanta of Nongdam who has been missing since May 27 is in the custody of NSCN-IM, said a senior police officer.
Significantly, NSCN-IM is under a ceasefire pact with the Government of India.
Police were able to establish Irabanta's whereabouts after they arrested one Winer who has now been sent to jail, informed the senior police officer.
Police have written to the Government to ask the Centre and persuade NSCN-IM to release Irabanta.
Incidentally, a State wide bandh was called by different civil organisations against the abduction of Irabanta since last midnight till 6 pm today.
Meanwhile the 18 hours general strike called by the JAC against abduction of Irungbam Irabanta and many civil organisations have passed off without any untoward incident.
The general strike which came into effect last midnight and ended at 6 this evening paralysed normal life in the State.
Imphal city as well as all other commercial centres of the valley wore a deserted look.

Police personnel in large number were seen at many strategic points and areas where violence was suspected.
But there was no report of any untoward incident.
All educational institutions remained shut whereas attendance in Government offices was greatly reduced.
Except for some private vehicles, there was no movement of public carriers on all important roads of the State including National Highways.
However, air service was not affected.
The impact of the general strike was visible in Thoubal, Bishnupur, Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
But it did not have much impact in Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Senapati and Chandel districts.
Yet, movement of people and goods were affected as there was no inter-district transport service.
Inter-State passenger and goods carriers started moving towards Imphal only after the general strike was over.
