Heavy loss in Jessami landslide

One of the two houses, which has been sunken, in the landslide at Kharashon Loza area of Jessami village in Ukhrul district .
In a major landslide along National Highway- 150 (NH-150), two houses and vast tract cultivated lands have been reportedly sunken at the border village of Jessami in Ukhrul District.
Informing this to Hueiyen Lanpao, Ashang Zimik and Ronra Honson of Jessami village said that the landslide occurred at two places namely Tushom Border Road and Kharashon Loza on Wednesday morning at around 8am.In the landslide two houses belonging to H Tharmi and Nganongmai have been sunken in Kharashon Loza area, apart from causing extensive damage to vast area of vegetable grown fields.
The loss in the catastrophe is estimated be to more than Rs.10 lakhs.
In the disaster which occurred along the National Highway, which is also known as Jessami road, over one kilometer have also been covered with think mud and it may takes more than four months to clear the road for vehicular traffic.
As the main road that connects the village with other district headquarters has been blocked, the only route that remains unaffected by the landslide is the old PWD footpath.
However, this route is not possible for the villagers to travel all the way from their villages to other district headquarters for lifting essential commodities.
Since last night, BRTF personnel rushed to the spot along with crawler cranes and JCB to start clearing of the landslide and created a temporary footpath for the villagers.
