For the first time in the State, the Manipur Oxygen Plant Private Limited (MOPPL) has been granted licence to manufacture medical oxygen in the State.
Speaking to media persons at the company's office located at Joypur Khunou, Bishnupur district, MOPPL managing director Khagemba Sanabam said that there would be no shortage of medical oxygen in hospitals even if there is prolonged blockade or bandh.
He said that the company was given licence to manufacture medical oxygen by the Licensing and Controlling Authority, Directorate of Health Services on February 12 .

The oxygen manufacturing plant is the first of its kind in Manipur and third in the North East after Assam and Meghalaya.
There was a case of expiry of a patient because of impure oxygen 13 years back.
Moreover, severe difficulties were encountered very often because of frequent bandhs and blockades, he said.
It was with the vision to address these difficulties for good that the oxygen manufacturing plant was established at the cost of Rs 4 crore with loan from UBI.
Average daily requirement of oxygen for medical purposes and industry in the State is just 70 cylinders.
As such, there would be no shortage of oxygen for the next 20 years even if there are certain problems in exporting oxygen outside the State.
Although an oxygen cylinder bought from outside the State costs Rs 1200, the same cylinder would be made available at Rs 700 for industry and Rs 900 for medical purposes.
Khagemba claimed that the degree of purity manufactured at his plant is 99.97 per cent.
He also conveyed gratitude to Revenue Department, Electricity Department and Medical Department for their contributions toward establishing the plant.
