UN team visits Mizoram villages

Aizawl, February 16 2014:
The United Nations Mission team, comprising four UN agencies, which had visited Mizoram few days ago to carry out ground inspection for possible joint venture with Mizoram Government, has left Aizawl today, looking forward to take up initiatives to enhance development on multiple sectors.
During their stay, the UN team visited several places and held meetings with Government Department leaders with whom they discussed about several possible grounds for joint venture to enhance inclusive development.
Before they left Aizawl today, they held another meeting with New Land Use Policy (NLUP) Implementing Board Vice Chairman PLThanga and government department leaders at Aijal Club Conference Hall, continuing the discussion of the other day and winding up the discussions in the previous meetings.
Official sources said that the idea to embark on joint venture is being initiated as the important objectives of the United Nations Organisation such as protection of the earth and environment, sustainable development utilizing its resources, increasing economic production, raising living standard, creating permanent source of income for daily wage earners, preservation of water sources, preventing cattle from endemics, are similar to that of the objectives of the Mizoram government flagship programme NLUP, and also that the same are also being the objectives of the UN agencies individually.
Hence, possible ways to cooperate with Mizoram government is being sought, and the four UN agencies came for ground inspection.
Discussions with regard to "potential area" for initiatives were held with various departments, NGOs, and with those concerned with bamboo processing plant.
Different UN agencies in India have had carried out development works with other North Eastern States but individually than jointly.
Therefore, if go by plan, the present one will be the first time India UN Mission on behalf of 27 UN Agencies in India embark on a project.
The UN Mission team for the purpose comprises of top leaders of UN agencies.
For the start, the UN team will within February chalk out plans and proposals for steps to be taken at the initial stage.
Such plans and proposals will be reviewed in mid March with representatives of Mizoram government.
On their way of leaving Mizoram today, the UN team also visited Venus Bamboo Processing Plant at Sairang.
