Women of Manipur have been urged to lead the State towards peace on International Women's Day, 2024 .
Observed across the length and breadth of the State, the celebrations acknowledged and remembered the contributions of the women of Manipur from freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu to 'mothers' who fought Nupi Lan.
Panchayati Raj Minister Yumnam Khemchand said the women of the State have a big role to play in ending the present crisis and bringing peace to Manipur.
He said this at the Sangai Conference Hall of Hotel Imphal, where International Women's Day was observed under the theme "Invest in women: Accelerate progress" .
The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and Thongju Apunba Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited (TAWMCSL) jointly organised the observance.
Speaking on the occasion, Yumnam Khemchand recalled the Nupi Lan against the British and said the women of Manipur are known for their bravery.

He said Khwairamband Keithel, operated by women, is unique and indispensable in improving the State's economy.
The women of the State have shone in many fields, and they have been playing important roles in every major issue, he said.
Since the beginning of the current crisis, women have been keeping vigil day and night to keep their children, their families and villages safe, he added.
Violence has subsided, but the crisis is not yet over, he said, appealing to the women to continue their efforts to resolve the crisis and bring peace to Manipur.
On the occasion, Salam Ulka, Chairperson of the Manipur State Commission for Women, said bringing about equality in the society requires empowering women.
She urged people to work towards bringing a society where men and women are treated and developed equally.
MSCW Members Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Lourembam Davabati, Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission's Mission Director N Bandana, TAWMCSL president N Bimola attended the observance.
AMWJU celebrates International Women's day The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) celebrated the International Women's Day at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Recognising their contributions, women journalists were shown respect and given gifts on the occasion.
Documentary film AFSPA 1958 which had won Golden Lotus Award in the 56th National Film Awards was screened as a part of the event.
Manipur State Women Development Corporation Chairperson MLA Sagolsem Kebi, Social Welfare Department Joint Director Bantee Singh Konthoujam and AMWJU president Bijoy Kakchingtabam among others were present.
YAS celebrates
The State Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports celebrated the International Women's Day honouring remarkable women in sports.
Langam Chaoba and Sanglakpam Chaobi Devi, two exceptional women coaches in Youth Affairs and Sports Department were feted at the event.
As head coach, Langam Chaoba had led the Senior Indian Women Football Team to win the runners up title in the Turkish Women's Cup 2024 .
Sanglakpam Chaobi Devi was one of the coaches of the Indian team in the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship 2024 .
"We acknowledge the invaluable contributions of these trailblazing coaches and reaffirm our commitment to empower women in our society," said T Phulen Meitei, Director, YAS.
MASLSA celebrates
The Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West and Imphal West district administration observed the International Women's Day under the theme "Inspire Inclusion" with the women inmates at Manipur Central Jail, Imphal.
Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu said women are God's special creation, and are now educated and performing equal if not better than their counterparts.
Golmei Gaiphulshillu encouraged the inmates to live a righteous and honest life and wished foreigner inmates to return to their home safely.
Track-suits, exercise books and stationery items for children residing at the Detention Centre, and T-shirts, undergarments for all adult inmates were distributed.
Jail Superintendent SK Bhadrika and staff of the Social Welfare Department attended the event.
MSCST, TSLI celebrate
Observing the International Women's Day, the Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) and Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSLI) organised a one day sensitization programme on women's rights at ADC Bhavan, Imphal.
High Court of Manipur Advocate Worthing Soro, former Assistant Professor of Dayal Singh College (DU) Chuimeila Keishing attended the event as resource persons.
MSCST Chairperson Thuigai Mathieu Rongmei attended the event.
AR celebrates
Celebrating the day, Tamenglong Battalion organised a seminar on the theme, 'Inspire Inclusion' at Apollo Ground, Tamenglong.
The programme was conceptualised with an aim to highlight the achievements of women in diverse fields who had broken the shackles of stereotypes and played a pivotal role in shaping the society while inspiring several others, said Assam Rifles in a statement.
MLA Janghemlung Panmei, SP Lanmiyo Luikham, Captain Preeti Choudhary and chairperson of Rani Gaidinliu Foundation Trust Ajikmai Pamei among others spoke on the occasion.
Many other institutions and organisations including GP Women's College's Women's Grievance Cell, Oriental College Takyel, District Programme Officer ICDS Cell Imphal East and Imphal East district administration, Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba Kangleikap, Young Women Help Organisation Wangkhei and Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Lup (NIMPAL) too observed the day.
Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) also celebrated the day under the theme "Inspire Inclusion," at Takyelpat today.
