Imphal, March 08 2024:
The Joint Coordinating Committee of PHED Workers and Employees' Organisation Manipur and All Manipur PHED Employees and Workers' Union, have reiterated their demands to the state government to grant confirmation of their service, while cautioning of launching intense protests in collaboration with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) if their demands are ignored.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Friday, Union advisor, Sh Heiningamsing Monsang, highlighted the discrepancy faced by work charged employees within the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).
He referred an order from the finance department dated January 22, 2001, stipulating that work charged employees across engineering departments, including PHED, should receive service confirmation after completing 10 years of service.
Despite this directive, work charged employees in PHED have not received confirmation even after 24 years of service, despite their consistent attendance, including on Sundays, as part of essential services, the advisor maintained.
He also underscored significance of the confirmation, as it would entitle employees to pension and gratuity benefits as per the Terminal Benefit for Work Charged Staff of various departments.
Highlighting directive of the High Court of Manipur dated February 6, asking the government to address the demands of 346 work charged employees within three months, he emphasised the urgency of the situation.
Heiningamsing also warned of intense forms of protests in collaboration with CSOs if the government fails to act promptly to address their grievances.
