Imphal, December 21 2024:
While cautioning that government must be responsible when a civil war situation arrive in the state when killing and arrest of village volunteers continue unabated, COCOMI assistant coordinator Joychandra Konthoujam appealed government to issue immediate order to halt killing and arrest of village volunteers.
Continuing the protest against AFSPA and the killing and arrest of village volunteers at Salungpham on December 14, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) staged sit-in-protest at Wahengbam Leikai on Saturday.
During the protest, slogans like 'We condemn killing of village volunteers', 'Punish police commandos who killed vil lage volunteers, 'Police commandos need not show courage to the Meetei, show courage to Narco-Terrorists' and 'Repeal AFSPA immediately' were chanted by the protestors.
Joychandra Konthoujam, who addressed the protestors, said that village volunteers came out voluntarily to save Manipur when more than 35,000 state force and 70,000 central forces were unable to defend attack from Kuki Narco-Terrorists.
As threat to territorial integrity of Manipur still persist, the service of village volunteers remain important and accordingly government must honour village volunteers, he said adding that state force and central forces are yet to take any decisive action to uproot terrorists.
While urging government to immediately issue order to halt killing and arrest of village volunteers, Joychandra Konthoujam warned that a civil war like situation will arrive if killing and arrest of village volunteers continue unabated.
When such a situation arrives, government must be responsible for any untoward incident, he cautioned.
According to Joychandra Konthoujam, the draconian nature of Armed Forces' Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is well known throughout the world but Government of India still imposed the pro-military and British colonial era law in Manipur and North East states.
He demanded immediate repeal of AFSPA from Manipur and NE states.
Meanwhile, a statement of COCOMI strongly observed that aggression on Meetei people by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists is increasingly indicative of a proxy war initiated by the Government of India utilising Kuki militants under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.
The COCOMI statement issued by media coordinator Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khu-man averred that one KNF-P (under SoO) commander named Tiger made a statement on a public platform (which is currently widely shared on social media) - wherein he claimed responsibility for the bomb and gun attacks at Kangchup and Leimakhong villages, as well as the destruction of houses and the issuing of threats.
The KNF commander declared that actions were carried out under his command and such statement affirmed that Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists wage against Meetei is a proxy war launched by the Government of India using Kuki militants.
It is becoming suspicious that the missing Kamal Babu, who oversaw contract work at 57 Mountain Division, Leimakhong, was mercilessly killed by Kuki militants by conspiring with central forces, the COCOMI statement alleged.
Kuki militants under SoO with the Government of India are indulging terrorist acts including killing of innocent Meeteis, destruction of houses and blocking of National Highway in broad day light.
Both the state and central governments should not remain silent when such video clippings of a commander under SoO made such claims of destruction under his command, the COCOMI statement said adding that police should also register a case by sending show cause notice to Kuki militants under SoO.
Demanding complete eradication of Kuki Narco-Terrorists by conducting military crackdown, the COCOMI statement maintained that illegal immigrants must be flushed out by implementing NRC in the state.
