Imphal, October 19 2024:
Cancer treatment landscape in the state is expanding with the establishment of three private hospitals dedicated exclusively to cancer care, enhancing the resources available alongside existing facilities at RIMS, JNIMS, and Shija Hospitals, noted Manipur Univfersity vice-chancellor Naorem Lokendra.
Speaking as chief guest on the second day of the 18th conference of Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI), North East Chapter at Classic Grande, here, on Saturday, Prof Lokendra expressed concern over increase in cancer cases in Manipur.
However, in-spite of the rise, he noted that advancement in medical science and technology has improved treatment outcomes.
Noting high cost associated with cancer treatment, and patients from the state opting for distant Mumbai for cancer treatment, Prof Lokendra opined that Manipur is fortunate to have three private hospitals - American Oncology Institute Imphal, Karkinos Manipur Cancer Institute and Research Centre, and Trevi Hospital and Research Institute dedicated to cancer treatment.
These facilities complement existing cancer treatment facilities namely Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), and Shija Hospitals, he noted.
Prof Lokendra welcomed the association's wisdom to conduct the conference in the state, and expressed hope that it would bring new opportunities, treatment knowledge, and advancements in cancer care to benefit both doctors and patients in the state.
The conference aims to explore advancement in the field of cancer treatment and foster collaboration among medical professionals to further improve cancer care in the region.
