GOC Spear Corps fosters veteran ties during visit to Chandel

Chandel, April 09 2026:
Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding, Spear Corps, visited Modi village in Chandel District on April 9 as part of an outreach programme aimed at strengthening engagement with ex-servicemen (ESM).
According to a release issued by IGAR (South), the visit was centred on an interaction organised by the Assam Rifles, providing a vital platform for direct engagement with veterans who have dedicated their lives to the service of the nation.
The initiative sought to reinforce the enduring bond between the military and the veteran community, During the event, the Corps Commander met with 70 veterans, whom he personally felicitated for their distinguished and selfless service.
In his interaction, Lieutenant General Pendharkar highlighted the invaluable role these individuals have played in nation-building and in safeguarding India's sovereignty.
He spoke of the veteran community as a crucial bridge between the Armed Forces and civil society, noting that their inherent discipline and values continue to inspire the currently serving ranks.
The gathering facilitated a constructive dialogue where senior officers and officials addressed specific concerns of the veterans, providing clarity on resettlement schemes, welfare initiatives, and available support mechanisms.
The interaction reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles to the well-being of the fraternity.
