Guru Naorem Bokuljao Singh remembered

The 90th birth anniversary of Guru Naorem Bokuljao Singh was celebrated today at Ima Panthoibi Shanglen in Samurou Naorem Chaprou.
The event organised by the Bokuljao Memorial Charitable Trust was graced by dignitaries, including Prof Paonam Gunindro Singh, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture; Leimapokpam Lakpati Singh, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee; Dr Yumnam Suren, president, All Manipur Music Association (AMMA) and Wangoi AC MLA, Khuraijam Loken Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Paonam Gunindro said, "Manipur has a rich repository of traditions and arts.
The State is best introduced to the world through its rich performing arts & culture" .
He said that Nata Sankirtana is an integral part of Manipuri society, present in every sphere of life, from birth rituals to death ceremonies.
"Nata Sankirtana has been inscribed on the Representative List of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity", he added.
He also recounted the significant contribution and sacrifices made by Guru Naorem Bokuljao Singh towards the promotion of Nata Sankirtana.
Furthermore, Prof Paonam Gunindro urged all to provide their support in preserving and developing the age-old cultural heritage preserved & bestowed by the ancestors.
The gathering also offered floral tributes to a photograph of Guru Naorem Bokuljao Singh.
