CSOs ban BJP activities in Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, September 21 2022: Civil society organisations of Kangpokpi resolved in a joint meeting held Wednesday to ban all activities related with BJP in Kangpokpi district in connection with the K Orphanage incident of September 16 .

The CSOs also informed people of the district not to invite or entertain any BJP MLAs, ministers and party leaders as guests at any event or function.

The joint meeting was held at Kangpokpi town in connection with the incident at K Orphanage wherein BJYM members caused bullet wound to a resident of Leikot village whom they accused of being a drug peddler.

Speaking to the media, CSOs spokesperson Thangtinlen Haokip informed that after thoroughly examining the cause of the sit-in-protest staged at K Orphanage, the joint body found the reason for the protest genuine and valid.

"Considering the gravity of the unlawful act committed by BJYM and negligence of the BJP government in resolving the issue as demanded by the village chiefs and area organisations, we have decided to ban all activities of BJP in Kangpokpi district till the issue is resolved," he affirmed.

He said that despite a humble democratic protest and appeal to resolve the issue as per the customary law, the BJP government and authorities concerned undermined the necessity to resolve the issue.

Instead, the alleged drug peddler, who was in police custody with bullet wound, was sent to judicial custody for 15 days on Wednesday, he added.

He also asked as to how a person with a bullet wound was made to stay in a police station, and added that CSOs Kangpokpi served a four-day ultimatum to BJYM and BJP to resolve the issue, failing which, CSOs will take up intense forms of action and BJYM as well as BJP will be held solely responsible for any untoward incidents.

Thangtinlen Haokip maintained that the CSOs of Kangpokpi district have been fully endorsing and supporting the government's War on Drugs mission.

Even the KSO Sadar Hills president along with DIPR officials went to Mt Koubru foothills for a short documentary film on War on Drugs where he appealed to the people of Kangpokpi to stop poppy cultivation and abuse of other drugs in the district.

However, the incident of September 16 involving BJYM inflicting bullet wound to an alleged drug peddler is not only against the law but also against the objectives of the War on Drugs mission, he added.

He also enquired if the BJP government of the state has made BJYM as one of the agencies to deal with the drug issue.
