Imphal, May 20 2009:
A physically challenge youth has been reportedly assaulted by personnel of the 6th Manipur Rifles attaching at the Senapati district police on the night of May 14 last, alleged All Tribal Disable Union Manipur (ATDUM) today.
The 22 year old L Daikho son of late Loli having leg problem hailing from Senapati is currently treating at RIMS hospital, Imphal, informed president of the ATSUM, Momo Tantang the media persons in a press conference held today it office.
Relating the incident of that faithful day, Momo said it was happened when Daikho was going with his two local friends S Victor (20) and L Stenson (21) on foot.
Security forces came out from their camp and interrogated them on the night of May 14 night at around 7 pm.
Not only they interrogated Daikho but so started beating up him leaving his two friends saying that they have no suspicion with them.
When the other two friends approached the security force personnel that he is man who stay most of the time and ordered him to get back home, he added.
On the next day, he was admitted at RIMS hospital, Imphal.
They are waiting for his recovery.
He further revealed that the MR personnel at the post was under the command of one Yaeingam and they allegedly concealed the identities of the MR personnel involved in the beating of the physically challenged youth.
The president while relating the incident expressed wondered such security men who can harassed physical challenge people would have done to the ordinary men.
In the prevailing situation of killing spree of the security forces, now people feel fear with them then that of underground elements.
It is very unfortunate to commit such act of assaulting people living with disabilities while the people are protesting against the atrocities meted out from various circles.
If such atrocities continue to mete out, instead of going ahead with development, the state would back backward.
He finally warned that if the authority failed to take up appropriate action, the union will take assistance from the law court and also will launch protest.
