Shutdown paralyses normal life

Imphal, October 15 2023:
The State witnessed a near complete shutdown today during the 12 hours shutdown called by several militant groups in the State, condemning the merger of the former independent kingdom into the Indian Union.
The historic day, October 15, marked the declaration of Manipur's merger into the Indian Union through the 'Merger Agreement' signed in 1949 .
During the 12 hours shutdown, major market places including the three iconic Ima Keithels, temporary market shed, all other major markets, Paona Bazar, Thangal Bazar and most of the shops, and business establishments remained shut.
Other important market centres like Singjamei, Kongba, Lamlong and Kwakeithel etc too remained closed.
Normal life was severely affected in Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching districts too.
All passenger vehicles and vehicle carriers which used to run on several routes from different parts of the State to the State capital stayed off the roads.
Nonetheless, a few private vehicles were seen on some roads.
Flight service was not affected.
Police and Central armed police forces were deployed in different important junctions and were kept on high alert to prevent any kind of unwanted incident.
There was no report of any unwanted incident during the 12 hours shutdown.
