A three-day joint meeting aimed at finding out a strategy for a systematic plan to end the parking problems of the passenger service vehicles in Imphal city and other market places kicked off today at the office of the state transport department.
The meeting which will deliberately discuss on the parking problems facing in the congested city and market areas is attending among other by the DSP, traffic police.
The meeting kicked off from 2 pm at the transport office as per notification of the transport directorate issued on May 7 last.
On the first day of the joint meeting, representatives of the taxi service associations like Sangai Jeep Taxi C S Limited, Self Employment Persons Transport C M Limited and Un-employed Youth Diesel Auto-rickshaw Association attended.
From the government side, the meeting was attended by commissioner (transport), director (transport), DTO Imphal west and others.
The meeting importantly discussed on how to solve the controversy on the parking place in an agreeable means, source said.
In Manipur, with the increase of the population and unemployed persons, the number of people engaging on passenger taxi service is also on the raise while seeking self employment.
As a result of it there erupted parking problems owing to limited space, an official participating in the joint meeting observed adding that the joint meeting has been convened in order to ease this problem.
According to an instruction of the High Court, no monopoly can be done by any transporters with regard to the routes they are operating but in Manipur such practice is done by most of the transporters, he observed.
On the other hand, when transport authority takes Rs 100 as parking fee while buying a passenger service vehicles on loan, transport association are taking Rs 80 in addition.
There is the need to find out a way to ban this illegal activity.
In order to ease inconveniences causing by such practice and considering the need for bringing understand together, the joint meeting is being organized, he added.
The meeting will continue till May 13 and various passenger transport agencies and association will take part in the meeting.
