Imphal, April 09 2010:
Extending support to the ongoing cease-work strike being undertaken by State Govt employees under the JAC of AMGEO and AMTUC, teachers from Elementary level to Higher Secondary level posted in Imphal West district staged a protest demonstration inside the office complex of ZEO Zone-I today.
Because of the protest demonstration staged by teachers under the Council of Teachers' Association (COTA), no classes were conducted in Government schools located within Imphal West district.
COTA convenor h Santakumar reiterated that the demands of the employees are justified.
Taking strong exception to the refusal of the Government to pay any heed to the three months' old employees' agitation, he accused the Government of being inhuman.
It has been already scheduled that the teachers' protest demonstration staged today at Imphal West would be continued at Imphal on April 11, Bishnupur on April 13, Thoubal on April 15, Senapati on April 17, Churachandpur on April 19, Ukhrul on April 21 and at Tamenglong on April 23 .
In case the Government refuses to respond positively even after the scheduled series of sit-in-protests, teachers would gear up to launch agitation of 'fill jails', Santakumar said.
Employees of the Public Works Department and Irrigation and Flood Control Dept have joined the JAC's cease-work strike from today.
Employees of the two engineering depts, suspending their normal activities, stayed outside their rooms in groups as a show of protests.
