Imphal, April 18 2010:
The Maram womenfolk celebrated 'Mangkhang', one of their biggest festivals on Saturday at the historic Maram Khullen village in Senapati district about 90 kilometers from the state capital.
Organized by the Maram Students' Union (MSU), the festival was initiated as part of the community's cultural renaissance.
Showcasing their beauties and talents by young and newly married girls and staging of a spectrum of traditional folk dance marked the day.
Interestingly the bachelors make out their choice for future wife from amongst the unmarried girls during the festival, Maram elders said.
The villages enjoyed a clustered dish of fish chicken and indigenous rice-bear in it.
The festival came barely a few days after the community celebrated a traditional fishing festival in the same district.
