Imphal, April 18 2010:
In yet another case of child trafficking, 27 children aged between 9 to 15 years including 9 girls, all hailing from Manipur, were rescued and brought back to Imphal from Chennai on Saturday, reports NNN.
All the children are presently being kept at Observation Home, Takyel in Imphal for necessary medical examination and other official procedures.
The rescued children belong to three hill districts of Manipur, out of which 21 children hail from Chandel district, four from Churachandpur and two from Senapati, according to an activist of one NGO.
Tamil Nadu Government rescued the 27 children from different unregistered children Homes based in Chennai and Kanyakumari.
The rescued children were later handed over to Institute for Community Action and Resource Development (ICARD), an NGO based in Manipur and the NGO brought them (children) back to Imphal yesterday.
It is worth mentioning that 74 children were brought back to Imphal from Tamil Nadu in February.
In the first case, 19 children were brought back to Imphal on February 8 while in the second case, 55 children were brought back on February 19 .
