Imphal, April 18 2010:
Federation of All Tribal Youth clubs, manipur in a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has highlighted problems faced by tribal students in the education sector owing to alleged apathy by the State Government.
the representation signed by the Federation's functionaries from the districts of Chandel, Senapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, churachandpur and Imphal contended right to education of the tribal students had been deprived by successive Governments of manipur.
hailing the Centre's policy on 'right of children to free and compulsory Education Act 2009', the Federation said such a Constitutional provision have no relevance in the State as primary schools in the hill district are poorly staffed apart in the hill district villages are poorly staffed apart from absence of basic infrastructure.
Highlighting that inspite of conduct of DPC for recruitment of primary teachers followed by 'nominal' declaration of results, the selection orders had been annulled thereby amounting to violation of individual rights, the Federation in a statement issued today further complained that there is hardly any semblance of implementation of Central sponsored programmes such as SSA or existence of SCERT offices in the five hill districts of Manipur.
Referring to conduct of a new DPC on October 11, 2009 for recruiting primary teachers but the results not declared till date, the tribal body expressed strong resentment that inspite of various form of protest demanding declaration of the DPC results the State Government remains adamant on the issue.
Urging the Prime Minister to intervene and advise Government of Manipur to declare the result without further delay to enable the tribal children sustain their studies to achieve their academic objectives, the Federation also drew the attention of Dr Manmohan for ensuring that schools in tribal areas are well maintained with sufficient provision of teachers, furniture, play-ground etc.
