Imphal, April 18 2010:
Ahead of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, the MPP has taken up steps to forge a pre-poll alliance with like-minded political parties other than Congress, stated MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang today.
Dr Nimaichand was speaking at a reception function held in honour of his re-election as MPP president at Wangkhem Charangpat Mamang Leikai.
He said that the MPP would put in its best efforts to forge a pre-poll alliance and to publish a common manifesto before the next Assembly elections.
Even though the party is not eyeing the hill constituencies, MPP would try to go together with hill-based regional parties.
Announcing that MPP would field its candidates in 30 constituencies, out of 40 located in the valley districts, Dr Nimaichand said that election activities have been initiated in some Assembly segments following constitution of Kendra committees.
In 25 Assembly segments, even identification of the party's prospective candidates has been completed, he announced.
The MPP will form a new Government after the next Assembly elections.
Even if it fails to form a Government on its own, MPP will certainly be a partner of the ruling coalition, the MPP president claimed.
Addressing the people of his constituency (Wangkhem), Dr Nimaichand appealed to pardon him for his shortcomings and failures to fulfil the people's aspirations.
MPP intends to bring an economic revolution in Manipur, he said.
Speaking at the occasion, former Union Minister Th Chaoba said that the next elections will see a pitched battle between MPP and Congress.
Many other party leaders also spoke at the function.
