JAC calls 24-hr shutdown

The 'Joint Action Committee against the Killing of Laishram Prem (Priyam) Singh and Arrest of 6 Village Volunteers' has announced 24-hour total shutdown effective from 6 pm of December 27 .
According to chairman Kh Inaocha, an executive meeting of the JAC convened on Wednesday at Kiyam Siphai resolved to enforce the shutdown in the state till 6 pm of December 28 .
However, essential services will be exempted from the purview of the total shutdown, he said.
Recording to the JAC leader, the meeting also resolved not to claim the body of Prem till the police personnel involved in the killing are dismissed from service.
He further warned that the total shutdown would be extended if the six arrested village volunteers are not released unconditionally.
Meanwhile, sit-in protests continued in various parts of the state to denounce the Salungpham killing and arrest of the six village volunteers with the participants displaying placards and chanting against killing of the village volunteer, arresting of village volunteers, demanding punitive action against the police commandos involved, and for repealing the AFSPA 1958 from the state.
The sit-ins were staged at Lamsang Keithel, Senjam Khunou, Senjam Chirang, Lairensajik and Mayang Langjing, Koutruk and Naoremthong Laishram Leirak.
