Imphal, December 21 2024:
All Tribal Rights Protection Forum, Manipur urged state government for early implementation of the resolution adopted by the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) considering formation of an ad-hoc administrative committee to supervise the ADC administration in the hill districts of the state as early as possible.
In a release, All Tribal Rights Protection Forum, Manipur said that the forum is deeply concerned over the long delayed ADC elections which was supposed to be held in the mid-2020 as the tenure of the previous council expired on June 15, 2020 .
However, it is generally felt that the government failed hold ADC polls for the last four years owing to the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and the current conflict.
The forum strongly urged the government authorities concerned to hold the ADC elections at the earliest possible time.
Taking cognizance of the resolution of the HAC meeting held on October 14, the forum views the formation of an ad-hoc body to run the ADC as a positive approach with deep concern for the genuine grievances of the hill people.
It is further believed that, the move, made by the HAC to constitute expert bodies to supervise the administration of the Autonomous District Council till the much sought ADC polls are held is not done with a mala-fide intention but for the welfare of the hill districts.
This innovative approach, however, came after a detailed and minute deliberation of the Hill Areas Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, the forum added.
With no other viable options at this critical juncture where ADC polls cannot be held due to non-conducive and volatile situation in the state, the forum called upon the hill based CSOs, intellectuals, social activists, church leaders, student activists, tribal leaders and individuals concerned to bear with the situation and embrace with the concept of an expert committee mooted by the HAG to make the local bodies in the hills functional.
