Kuki militants attack police station, 3 houses destroyed

Jiribam, October 19 2024:
Kuki militants on Saturday rained bombs and bullets on Borobekra police and nearby areas causing damages to at least three houses belonging to the Meetei community.
The attack came close on the heels of a notice served by Hmar Village Volunteers on Friday, warning Meetei residents in Barak Circle to vacate before sunset and relocate to Jiribam town.
The attack, which began around 5.30 am, was retaliated by personnel stationed at the police post, leading to an hour-long gunfight.
There is no report of casualty on the side of the security forces though the police barracks, used to accommodate displaced Meetei people, were riddled with bullets.
Bombs fired by the Kuki militants also caused damage to two Meetei houses and set on fare a third.
The houses be longed to Haobam Manikumar alias Budhi, Heisnam Prem chand, and Oinam Tombabu.
Though reports have been re ceived about two other houses damaged in the attack, the same could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
Later around 6:30 pm, shots were fired from Yairolpokpi Hmar village toward Mong-bung Meetei village.
The said areas have been in the grip of tensions, as Kuki residents of Sejang and neighbouring villages have been protesting deployment of CRPF and police commandos in the vicinity.
Womenfolk of the said Kuki villages had stormed a security camp few days back to oppose deployment of CRPF and police commandos, prior to the 'quit notice' served by the Hmar Village Volunteers on Friday.
