The ASHA workers of Thoubal district have extended their support and participation to the All India Trade Union Congress (ITUC), Thoubal district conference scheduled to be held on January 25, and the nationwide general strike called on February 12 by various trade unions and farmers' organisations over issues affecting workers and farmers across the country.
According to a release issued by the AITUC, Manipur State Committee, the decision to endorse the strike was taken during a joint meeting held at the CMO Complex, Thoubal district.
The meeting was attended by AITUC, Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar; executive member I Tomba; AITUC Thoubal district president U Rajmohon; secretary L Bihari and All ASHA Workers Union Thoubal district president Samina Begum, along with around 200 ASHA workers of the district.
During the meeting L Sotinkumar stated that scheme workers in Manipur receive significantly lower wages compared to their counterparts in other States.
Pointing to the responsibilities shouldered by ASHA and mid-day meal workers, he urged the state government to formulate special policies by increasing the state's share to enhance their monthly wages.
He said these demands would be strongly raised during the nationwide general strike and called for collective participation.
