Senapati, November 15 2024:
Following the intervention of two local MLAs and the state government, Senapati district's frontal organisations on Friday suspended the blockade imposed on commercial vehicles along the NH-2 with immediate effect.
The development followed a meeting between MLAs Losii Dikho and Kumo Sha, and the district CSO leaders on Friday which lasted for more than two hours and signing of an MoU.
The MoU read; "Consequent upon a meeting held on November 15 at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, Senapati, in the presence of Mao MLA L Dikho, and Karong MLA J Kumo Sha, DC Senapati, and the representatives of the Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Senapati District Women Association (SDWA), and Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA), the charter of demands submitted on November 11 to the Chief Minister by the district frontal organisations was discussed thoroughly, and an understanding was reached".
Signatories to the MoU include the Senapati DC and presidents of NPO, SDWA, and SDSA.
Subsequently, NPO, SDWA, and SDSA agreed to temporarily relax the restrictions imposed on all commercial vehicular traffic movements beyond Senapati district HQ along NH-2 with immediate effect.
The assurances given by the representatives of the state government included, "the government will ensure punitive action against the perpetrators as per the law of the land, provide commensurate compensation to the victims and take immediate measures to curb the collection of illegal tax, extortion, and other disturbances on NH-2" .
Notwithstanding the assurances, the frontal organisations registered their dissatisfaction with the Arambai Tenggol Unit 18's notice issued on Thursday.
At the same time, NPO, SDWA, and SDSA cautioned that they would resume the agitation in case the assurances are not translated into action.
