Imphal, July 15 2009:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has warned of launching intense agitation if the government fails to revoke its decision to re-locate the AMSU office at DM College Campus.
Talking to reporters, AMSU President Irengbam Jamesbond Mangang lamented that instead of hearing the pleas made by AMSU to the government for the revocation of its decision to shift the AMSU office, the SDO of Imphal West, R Panmei has summoned the AMSU on July 18 .
Jamesbond also asked to know why the AMSU has been victimised by the government when there are many non-government and individual buildings in the DMC campus.
He pointed out that buildings like the MBC Church, MBC Higher Secondary School, Adimjati SC/ST Boys' Hostel, ABC Godown, PGTC Oil Pump, several individual buildings apart from the newly constructed quarters for Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
Speaking on the occasion, publicity secretary of the students' body, L Ranendra said that the AMSU office has served as temporary accommodation for students from far flung areas in the absence of such accommodative building from the government.
He said the government decision to shift such building is nothing but to cause confusion.
Ranendra also warned to launch severe agitation in case the government fails to draw back its decision.
Meanwhile, the students' unions of Kha-Manipur College, Kakching and Yangambam Kumar College, Wangjing have, in a separate statement, strongly denounced the victimisation of AMSU office by the government decision.
The two students' unions have also pledged to extend support to any form of agitations launched by AMSU and to endorse the move of the students' body in this regard.
