IDPs hold meeting, air woes to Governor, PM

Bishnupur, April 13 2025: Internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently taking shelter in the relief camp at Ningthoukhong Mangolnganbi College held a meeting on Sunday and adopted various resolutions.

Following the meeting, a memorandum outlining the adopted resolutions was submitted to the Bishnupur DC for forwarding the same to the chief secretary, the Governor of Manipur and the Prime Minister of India.

Among the demands, the IDPs urged the state government to initiate immediate steps for their safe return to their native homes, called for the provision of sustainable livelihood opportunities and suitable employment for affected families.

Citing inadequacies at the temporary accommodations, the IDPs urged for construction of permanent housing for each displaced family in a secure and appropriate location.

The meeting further resolved that, if their demands are not addressed, the IDPs from Churachandpur and Moreh will launch agitation against the government.

The meeting was attended by Meitei Society Churachandpur assistant secretary Moirangthem Baleshor, Meitei Youth Organisation, Churachandpur president Hemam Jugindro Meitei, Churachandpur Meitei Ethnic Clash Victim Committee president Ningthoujam Abung, Nupi Samaj vice president Nongthombam Jamuna and Ima Leimarel president Nayani Angom as presidium members.
