Govt to cash-aid 'jobless' families

A meeting of the state cabinet chaired by chief minister N Biren on Thursday approved financial assistance of up to Rs 10 lakh to every family under Chief Minister's One Family, One Livelihood (OFOL) Scheme.
The cabinet meeting was held at the conference hall of Senapati DC's office on Thursday, prior to the celebration of the first anniversary of the Biren-led BJP government 2.0.It was the first cabinet meeting of Biren 2.0 government held in a hill district.
The cabinet discussed 12 listed agendas and some other issues with focus on bringing uniform and inclusive development all over the state.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, government spokesperson and health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan informed that the OFOL Scheme was launched with the objective to provide livelihood means to every family of the state for improving their socio-economic status.
Under the scheme, one person from every family, which does not have proper source of income, can apply for the financial assistance with maximum limit of Rs 10 lakh out of which 30 per cent will be in the form of subsidy grant.
This is a modification of the existing scheme for which the government had already earmarked a corpus fund of Rs 100 crore.
Unlike the previous scheme, OFOL will no longer need minimum educational or technical qualification for selecting beneficiaries.
Besides, the maximum age limit of eligible beneficiaries has been enhanced from 45 to 65.As such, any individual from a family, which has no proper or regular source of income, can apply for the assistance for any type of entrepreneurial works under the scheme, he said while inviting the public to avail benefits of the scheme.
On other decisions taken in the meeting, the minister said that Thursday's cabinet has approved direct purchase of land for Chingphu Police Outpost in Ishok and Integrated Sewerage System for Imphal City Phase 2 with NDB funding, which include sewerage treatment plant and intermediate water pumping station at Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai.
The cabinet also approved service extension of VDF personnel from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024; promotion of two higher secondary lecturers to assistant professors at Hindi Teachers' Training College; bifurcation of 44 posts of DM University including principals and other non-teaching staff from the higher & technical education to DM University; recruitment of staff on contractual basis for Centrally Sponsored Scheme on National Mission on Edible Oil; and appointment of 20 junior engineers Grade I (electrical-5 and mechanical-15) under PWD.
He further informed that the cabinet approved compensation of Rs 10 lakh and compassionate appointment to the next of kin of Yanglem Priyobrata of Nachou Awang Leikai, a driver, who was killed and abandoned in Nagaland some months back; and compensation of Rs 7.5 lakh to the next of kin of police constable Md Manjur Ahmad (posted in reserved line), who died in police custody few years back (as per the NHRC directive).
Taking the opportunity, the minister conveyed chief minister N Biren's appreciation to the people of Senapati district for their warm welcome to him, ministers, MLAs and officials during their visit in the district to celebrate the 1st anniversary of BJP 2.0.He also informed about the football exhibition match between CM's XI and Senapati XI played at the first Astro Turf ground of Senapati district.
