Relay hunger strike begins in Ningthoukhong

Demanding the unconditional release of individuals arrested by security forces in connection with the ongoing crisis in the state and immediate cessation of such arrests, members of Apunba Lup Ningthoukhong, Protection Committee Ningthoukhong Women Wing, and Ching Tam Liching Lup, Ningthoukhong launched relay hunger strike at Ningthoukhong Bazar on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest, Women Wing president RK Tombishana strongly condemned the arrest of youth who, she said, had come forward to .protect their motherland.
After months of restlessness in the state during the tenure of a popular government, the public had hoped that the imposition of President's Rule would bring peace, but that expectation has not been fulfilled, she lamented.
"Instead, the situation has worsened with the emergence of new issues, necessitating re-establishment of a popular government at the earliest," she explained, adding that the relay hunger strike would continue until a resolution is reached and reconciliation is achieved.
Meanwhile, on the second day of the 10-day total shutdown Called by Arambai Tenggol, major markets and business areas in Bishnupur district wore deserted look.
Locals also blocked the Tiddim Road, preventing vehicular movement along the route.
In Nambol, an intense confrontation occurred between Arambai Tenggol volunteers and the police, prompting the police to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.
