Assam Rifles holds security meet with border villages in Chandel

Chandel, July 20 2026: Assam Rifles organised a security meeting at Larong in Chandel district on July 19, bringing together representatives from seven border villages to strengthen civil-military cooperation and promote peace and development in the region.

According to a statement issued by IGAR (South), the interactive meeting was attended by 17 prominent civil society representatives from Larong Khunou, Larong Khullen, Libung, Duthang, Darchol, Challong and Vamku villages.

The discussions centred on the prevailing security situation, with participants highlighting the importance of sustained cooperation between security forces and local communities in maintaining peace and stability in the border areas.

The meeting also focused on socio-economic development and youth empowerment initiatives.

Plans were discussed to promote mushroom cultivation and floriculture, organise regular medical outreach programmes, establish a computer training centre for local youth and launch coaching classes for SSC (GD) and Agniveer aspirants to encourage greater participation in the Armed Forces.

The village representatives expressed appreciation for Assam Rifles' continued engagement with the local communities and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at maintaining peace and harmony in the region.

The programme concluded with a community lunch, symbolising the spirit of mutual trust, cooperation and partnership between Assam Rifles and the villagers.
