Imphal, April 13 2025:
Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) in collaboration with Meetei Marup Meetei Leipak (MMML) will observe "Meetei Yening Hunba Numit" on May 30, the date corresponding to the third day of the Kalen month in the lunar Manipuri calendar.
Addressing media persons at the LSTB's Haying Khongban Uphong Yumpham office, member secretary M Shivdutta Luwang said the day commemorates a significant moment in Meetei history as on this day in 1945, after Naoriyo Phulo's revival of Meetei identity, seven Meetei pioneers took a solemn pledge to safeguard the Meetei community and promote its language and culture.
"The day should never be forgotten.
All Meeteis who believe in our religion, culture, and tradition should actively take part in this observance," he stated.
Shivdutta also informed that the programme will begin at the MMML office in Thambalkhong, Imphal East with traditional rituals and floral tributes to honour the seven pioneers.
A large religious rally will then proceed to the LSTB office, where the main function will take place.
As part of the event, a book titled "Sajibu Layeltaba" will also be released.
Meanwhile, the LSTB has expressed deep condolences over the passing away of its senior member, Ningthoujam Tomba, who was 101 years old.
