Naga bodies pay tribute to Chonthingla

The Poumai Naga Union (PNU) and its frontal organisations held a condolence service at Liyai Khunou (Chilao) Zhaimai on Wednesday in honour of NSCN/GPRN kilonser Chonthingla Shimray, who passed away on January 7, at Referral Hospital, Dimapur.
Despite the cold and fog, hundreds of Poumai residents, including women and children, gathered to bid farewell as her body was taken to her native village for the final rites.
PNU president RB Pani, delivered a moving condolence message, while leaders and representatives from Poumai organisations paid their last respects as the local pastor closed the service by praying for the mourning family.

All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) also expressed grief over the untimely demise of Chonthingla Shimray, who was the wife of general Ningkhan Shimray, VC, Longvibu of the Naga Army.
In its condolence message, ANSAM remembered Chonthingla Shimray as a visionary leader and a dedicated individual whose contributions to the Naga nation were profound.
ANSAM acknowledged her pivotal role in fostering unity among the Naga people, stating, "Her instrumental role in building a Unified Naga Nation will remain etched in our memories forever".
ANSAM extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for divine comfort and strength.
Similarly, Maring Students' Union conveyed their condolences to general Anthony Ningkhan Shimray, MC, VC, Longvibu, and his family.
In a message, the union highlighted Chonthingla Shimray's contributions to the Naga cause, describing her as a woman of extraordinary resolve and dedication.
'Enoli' Chonthingla was not only a pillar of strength for her family but also an inspiration to all who uphold the ideals of unity, justice, and freedom for the Naga people.
Her sacrifices and steadfast commitment to the struggle for Naga rights reflected her profound patriotism and courage, it added.
Senapati District Students' Association and Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Mee also expressed deep condolence over the untimely demise of Chonthingla Shimray and prayed for her departed soul to rest in peace in the heavenly abode.
