COCOMI Farmers' Wing has convened a meeting of conflict affected farmers on June 9 at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
The meeting, scheduled to start from 12.30 pm of Monday (June 9), will discuss various issues facing farmers in the fringes of the valley who have been affected by the violent conflict since May 3, 2023, and take resolutions to address their grievances, said the COCOMI Farmers' Wing in statement.
Notably, the Principal Secretary Agriculture had yesterday (Friday) chaired a meeting of the State Level Monitoring Committee at Secretariat South Conference Hall.
The Friday meeting, attended by Director Agriculture, Deputy Commissioners, SPs and Chief Engineers discussed the need for security measures for carrying out agriculture activities during Kharif season in vulnerable/sensitive areas, and mechanisms to compensate farmers for losses incurred in 2024 as a result of the violent conflict.
While the meeting on Friday also discussed provisions for distribution of seeds and fertilizers, a meeting of all the affected farmers is highly required to effectively address all the grievances, said COCOMI Farmers' Wing.
Since May 3, 2023, farmers in the fringes are unable to tend to their farms and have incurred huge losses.

It will also discuss necessary mechanisms for compensation of conflict affected farmers for the year 2024, COCOMI Farmers' Wing said.
