Imphal, December 26 2024:
"If we are to end the conflict in Manipur, then MLAs of all political parties including BJP and Congress need to work together.
However, it would be wrong of Congress to try and engage in dirty politics amid such a serious situation," opined BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary P Premananda Meitei.
Briefing the media at BJP Thambal Shanglen, here, on Thursday, Premananda asserted that the BJP and the government will never ignore the right from wrong and vice versa.
Ever since the conflict broke out on May 3 last year, the government along with CSOs, Meira Paibi groups and student organisations have been in constant touch to work out lasting solution.
Maintaining that the government is not to be blamed for the violence, he reasoned that the government rescued and saved the lives of around 50-60,000, who could have been easily slain during the violence.
Congress needs to acknowledge this feat of the government insteadlof egging others to push for the CM's removal, he maintained.
Stressing the need for all MLAs irrespective of whether they are BJP, Congress or other political parties, to work together; he advised Congress against indulging in dirty and wrong politics amid such a serious situation.
He also urged the opposition to view everything objectively and help come up with a solution to the same.
Recalling the oath by Congress party MPs to resettle the IDPs in their own homes, Premananda said that the BJP abstained from making a commitment as it was clear that return of the IDPs without resolving the crisis would be next to impossible.
He sought clarity on stance of MPs Bimol Akoijam, who had taken the said oath, while further questioning why Alfred Kanngam Arthur did not say anything when an eight-month old baby was brutally killed along with others in Jiribam.
The secretary opined that there is validpoint with the citizens asking the PM to visit the state.
However, a party like Congress has no business questioning why the PM has not visited Manipur.
When the conflict broke out, union home minister Amit Shah stayed in Manipur for three days to monitor the situation, in addition to keeping MoS in Manipur for 27 days.
"During the Kuki-Naga clash, which went on for 7-8 years, Congress was in power with PV Narasimha Rao as the PM.
He, let alone visiting Manipur, did not send anyone.
Rajesh Pilot, who was appointed union minister for a few hours, visited the state instead.
Thus, the Congress party criticising PM Modi for not visiting Manipur, holds no merit," he said, while remarking that BJP will never accept the statements made by a party whose intent seems to be to prolong the violence and disintegrate Manipur.
Premananda also referred to a social media post made by a Manipur News Group, calling for ending CM Biren and his left hand and right hand ministers to save Manipur, as a blatant murder threat.
He strongly condemned the post and urged all citizens including those inciting the people not to repeat such uncivilised acts in the future.
He continued that after the administrators of Manipur News Group has been arrested, some have been jailed and others released on bail.
However, Congress warmly welcomed such persons.
Thus, Congress owe an explanation why it supports such persons who were arrested for calling for murdering the CM and his ministers, he said.
