Ukhrul, September 25 2013:
Expressing strong resentment against the undue monopoly exercised by bus owners, Ukhrul District Taxi Welfare Association (UDTWA) has objected to the forcible stoppage of taxi service operating along Ukhrul-Imphal road.
In the wake of suspension of bus service along Ukhrul-Imphal route, Ukhrul District Buses and Trucks Owners' Association (UDBTOA) and All Manipur Buses Owners Federation (AMBOF) have forcefully imposed stoppage of taxi services on September 23 .
In a press conference held on Tuesday, the UDTWA said taxi service has been arbitrarily stopped by members of UDBTOA and AMBOF.
''The Ukhrul bus owners with the support of AMBOF imposed bandh on taxi service operating along the Ukhrul-Imphal route on Monday.
This is totally an act of monopoly,'' said UDTWA president.
UDBTOA has suspended bus service since Saturday last following a difference over tax issue with Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL).
The taxi owners warned against the bus transporters to refrain from the monopolistic policy, and asserted that their problem with TNL is a different issue.
''Taxi service will resume as usual along Ukhrul-Imphal route.
In case of any untoward incident, the bus association should be held responsible,'' the taxi owners warned.
In a meeting held yesterday, the Taxi association noted that had the information been intimated in advance by the bus association there was no question of ignoring their appeal but would have extended full cooperation.
