Kakching, May 22 2024:
While refuting reports published and broadcast in print and electronic media about semblance of camaraderie between Meetei and Kuki communities in Pallel bazar area, Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, Pallel dismissed the reports as misleading as peace is far from being restored.
Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, Pallel finance secretary L Romita told some media persons on Wednesday that reports about return of peace in Pallel bazar amount to mocking Meetei residents of the town and expressed that journalists who interviewed handful of people should have carried out proper assessment of the ground reality before publication of the report.
The journalists had taken report from the heart of Pallel bazar only rather than approaching the nearby Kuki settlements.
As no Meetei could access Pallel high school in Kuki inhabited area not far from Pallel bazar, there is no reason to believe that peace prevails in the area, she said while disclosing that Meetei students of the school are attending classes at UJB school, Pallel Meetei village with the Meeteis also unable to access the ATM booth near Pallel high school.
According to L Romita, Pallel bazar being inhabited by various communities could reopen due to heavy deployment of security forces but there is no peace in real terms.
She said that peace will return in Manipur when those displaced from Moreh, Churachandpur and other places and currently taking shelter in relief camps return to their respective homes and live normally.
