ATSUM pours out grievances

Imphal, August 02 2013 : All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM), while pouring out the grievances of the tribal community, has charged the State Government of not fulfilling its promises made in connection with the various demands of the tribals in the State.

Addressing media persons in this regard at its office in Nagaram today, Muan Tombing, President of ATSUM informed that there had been an understanding between the Government of Manipur and ATSUM over lack of teachers in the hills.

The State Government had given the assurance that the deficit teachers in the hills will be found out and the required teachers would be appointed at the earliest.

But the assurance has not been fulfilled till date.

In addition to this, the assurance of the State Government to establish B Ed centres in all the six hill districts of the State remains an unfulfilled promise.

ATSUM had urged the concerned authority to bring up the issue in the next Assembly Session and do the needful at the earliest possible, but nothing happen, he lamented.

Tombing further informed that following the understanding bought between ATSUM and Manipur Government, a report of the number of teachers lacking in the schools under ZEOs and CEOs in the hill districts was submitted to the Chief Minister by ATSUM.

During the survey ATSUM also came across certain schools lacking basic infrastructures.

He also pointed out that since only contract staffs have been appointed in JNIMS during the recruitment process, quota for tribals has been deprived.

As such none of the qualified tribal candidates were able to get themselves recruited in the selection process.

While highlighting the problems faced by the people in the hills regarding health facilities, the ATSUM President stated that there are no specialist doctors in the PHCs and CHCs of the hill districts.

None of the doctors and nurses posted in the hills is willing to stay in their place of posting since there are no proper quarter facilities for them.

The Chief Minister had promised to look into the matter and do the needful by July this year, but nothing concrete has been taken up in the regard.

He further appealed to the State Government to take all development programmes meant for the hill districts under the Central sponsored schemes in the most accurate and fair manner.
