The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) said that it will resume exerting pressure on 34 Meetei MLAs so that state government forward necessary recommendation to the Centre for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in ST list of the Indian Constitution.
According to statement of STDCM, the committee along with its colleague organisations like WMC, KKL, SKL, Meira Paibi groups, clubs and Keithel Lups launched storming of residences of Meetei MLAs from October 18, 2022 and pressurised the MLAs to mount pressure on the government for necessary recommendation to the Centre for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in ST list of Indian Constitution.
The campaign continued till January 21, 2023 and all the MLAs assured to meet the chief minister and discuss the matter thoroughly.
The committee also met Outer MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze on April 16, 2023 and submitted a copy of the memorandum submitted to 34 MLAs and chief minister.
The committee had plan to meet four cabinet ministers from the hills and submit the same memorandum but could not as the violence broke out on May 3 .
The committee also put on hold the campaign due to the violence.
As the violence has subsided at least to some extent, the committee decided to resume the campaign and re-start storming residences of MLAs and ministers so that they approach the government for sending recommendation to the Centre, the STDCM statement said and appealed people, clubs and Meira Paibis of nearby residences of MLAs and ministers to support the renewed campaign.
