WAD confers awards to four journalists

In connection with the 'Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence' held from November 25 till December 10, 2023, the Women Action for Development (WAD) has conferred awards to four journalists including Konsam Samita Devi of The Sangai Express.
During an award distribution function held at Manipur Press Club today, WAD presented the 'Best Promising Award 2023' to Konsam Samita Devi, B Rakesh Sharma of Imphal Free Press and Asem Babycha of Pandam.
The 'Best Gender Journalist Award 2023' was also conferred to Ksh Chitrabhanu Devi of Imphal Review of Arts & Politics.
The awards carry a cash prize and a citation.
Additionally, a book titled, "A Practitioner's Guide to Combat Crime Against Women in Manipur" was also released.
Speaking on the occasion, WAD secretary Sobita Mangsatabam said that the book authored by Basanat Wareppa can be used as a guide or as a resource directory.
She shared that WAD has been conducting awareness programmes, psycho-social counsellings at different relief camps to help the displaced people who have been suffering due to the prolonged conflict.
Crime Against Women & Children, Superintendent of Police, Ph Maheswari Devi expressed concern over the surge in cases of violence against women & children in the State due to low reporting by the victims.
She shared that apart from opening 8 Women Police Stations, help desks for women have been set up at every Police Stations in the State to handle cases of crimes against women.
Social activist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Inchel Express editor Salam Hemchandra, DM College of Arts Principal Dr Ch Sheelaramani, Waiton GP Pradhan P Surbala and CSD secretary U Nobokishore also took part in the event.
