Attack on farmers by Kuki armed groups condemned

Rongmei Chief/Chair-man Association, Zaengphay (Foothils) of Churachandpur district condemned alleged firing by Kuki armed groups targeting farmers of Raengdailuang/Sadu Khoiroi and Thingpui/Laimanai Kabui village under Churachandpur district while harvesting their crops on November 13 around 2 pm.
In a statement, the Association claimed that a group of around 20 fully armed Kukis in combat attires descended on Naga villages and started fired indiscriminately on the farmers with an intent to kill thereby terrorising the peace loving people of the area.
It also informed that a bullet hit house of one of the villagers.
"It is very unfortunate that despite several appeals to refrain from such activities in area of Naga settlements, who are maintaining neutrality so far and adhering to the UNC declaration of May 16, 2023, such incidents have been recurring," said the state, while appealing to both the warring communities to refrain from all unwarranted activities in Naga inhabited areas in the future failing which they may be forced to take up necessary steps to ensure safety of the people.
Meanwhile, Tangkhul Naga Foothills' Organisation (TNFO) denounced the attack on innocent farmers in Yaingangpokpi area between Shanti Khongban and Twichin on November 11 where a farmer identified as Kanshok Horam of New Canaan village was wounded while threshing paddy along with 10 of his friends.
TNFO, held Kuki responsible for the murderous assault on the innocent farmers.
A press communique issued by TNFO informed that a joint meeting of Tangkhul Naga CSO leaders held on November 11 adopted several resolutions.
As the bullets were fired from the direction of a Kuki bunker, Kuki should bear the responsibilities for the murderous assault of the innocent farmers, it stated, while adding that the senseless, inhuman, and cowardly act made it crystal clear that the intention was to murder the Tangkhul Naga innocent farmers.
Such provocative act would be reciprocated befittingly if not satiated or justified immediately, it cautioned.
It further said that the 'double engine' government should bear responsibilities of the incident, book the culprits immediately, give protection to Tangkhul Naga farmers in continuing agricultural activities and compensate victims of the incident.
