IRB man held for shooting commando driver

Imphal, January 14 2015: A special team of Churachandpur Police on Wednesday arrested a suspect accused in the murder of the Imphal West Police commando, namely Elangbam Joykumar (42) s/o E.Bamon Singh of Samurou Mamang Leikai at PCTC oil pump, Khuyathong on September 25, 2014 .

According to Police PRO, the suspect - Thangthiansong Tonsing (26) s/o T.Tualgou of Vengnuam, New Lamka, Churachandpur district was arrested from Tuimazing village area under Singhat PS along with one 9 mm pistol (suspected to be the weapon snatched from the slain driver) along with 11 live 9mm ammunition.

The case of killing the commando driver is under investigation by Imphal police Station.

On January 11, based on reliable information, a team of Imphal East District Police Commando unit conducted frisking and checking at Khurai Lamlong Bazar area.

During the frisking and checking, one active member of PREPAK organization, namely, Tonjam Tondon Meitei alias Boicha (30) s/o (late) T.Nadakishwor Meitei of Pukhao Khabam Makha Leikai was arrested from Khurai Lamlong Bazar in from an ATM Booth.

Incriminating articles were seized from his possession.

In a follow up action, the Police team arrested 2 (two) active members of PREPAK organization, namely - Ningthoujam Manglem Singh @ Joychandra (30) yrs s/o N.Nabachandra Singh of Uyumpok Maning Leikai on the same day from Khurai Telipati Road, Chingambam Leirak Machin, and (ii) Ningthoujam Uttam Singh (36) yrs s/o (late) N.Ibohanbi Singh of Khurai Thongam Leikai from Khuman Lampak area.

Investigation revealed that they were involved in extortion of money from the general public, private firms, government offices, etc.

A case has been registered at Porompat Police Station and investigation is going on.

On January 13, a combined team of Bishnupur District Police Commando Unit and 2 JAKLI conducted search operation at Moirang Lamkhai area.

During the search operation, one active member of UNLF organization, namely, Hemam Premananda Singh @ Hingamba (31) s/o H.Ranjig Singh @ Ibomcha Singh of Moirang Panshang was arrested.

A case has been registered at Moirang Police Station and investigation is going on.
